Empowering vulnerable women through sustainable pig farming on a 7-acre farm in Nakuwawa, Kalifasi Village, Lilongwe Rural — one piglet at a time.
Follow the Rise and Rear Project from its founding moment in 2025 to our ambitious vision for 2030 and beyond.
The Rise and Rear Project began with a simple but powerful act: placing two piglets in the hands of a woman who had never owned livestock before. Today, 10 women across the Nakuwawa community are raising pigs, earning income, and building confidence.
Each woman receives starter piglets, on-farm training, veterinary support, and access to the Nthangala Farms market network. As their pigs breed, they pass offspring back to the programme — seeding the next cohort of empowered women.
Our goal: 100 women empowered by 2030 across 5 training rounds.
Born from the Rise and Rear Project, Porkarino is Nthangala Farms’ premium pig-meat outlet and processing operation. Every cut traces back to our farm — ethically raised, locally processed, and proudly Malawian.
Porkarino will absorb the farm’s pig output, create jobs for trained women, and bring quality pork products to Lilongwe markets and beyond. It completes the circle from sow to sale.
